2017 Blog Goals

2017 Blog Goals

For lots of people that I know, the New Year symbolises the beginning of something new – turning over a new leaf and starting afresh with determination and drive for the rest of the year.

Although I don’t really set myself ‘resolutions’ I’m no stranger to that little niggling voice in the back of my head telling me that this year will be my year, and that I should start it off as I mean to go on.For the first time in years, I don’t feel any need to set any personal goals that equate to changing and improving myself, and I think this has a lot to do with the fact that I’ve started to love who I am and enjoy that and not constantly tear myself down.

My blog however, is a different case altogether. I’ve blogged since the end of September 2016, so I’m still very new to this ‘world’ but from what I’ve seen and experienced so far I can’t wait to continue on this journey – and I’m taking you along with me!

So without further ado, here are my 2017 blog goals!

 Focus on photography

Even though I have some photography experience, taking blog pictures is extremely different to the world of portraits and weddings and I’m learning something new each and every day. Over Christmas, I took the jump and invested in an Olympus Pen ELP-7 and I am determined to set aside time to learn how to use it properly and not revert to my trusty iPhone 6s camera.

  Be more adventurous

Partly linked to the goal above, I want to be more adventurous and creative with blog posts and post photography. I don’t have a niche as such and I’m enjoying writing about lots of different things, which I hope to carry on with. As much as I love basic flat lay photos (and who doesn’t?!) I’d like to step outside of my comfort zone every once in a while!

Attend blogging events

In December I attended my first blog event – the LUSH Blogger Beauty School. I was very apprehensive and nervous but had the best time and met so many lovely bloggers that I’ve kept in touch with. I’ve joined several groups and am keeping my eyes peeled for events and workshops – anything that will help me to connect and socialise and have fun.

Create a media kit

As a small blogger I don’t have a great need for a media kit at the moment, but that doesn’t mean I can’t create one! I want to stand out rather than having just a boring ‘about me’ page on my blog, and have a kit well designed to send out at a moment’s notice.

Improve my DA

It wasn’t until joining in with various group blog chats and researching that I found out what a ‘DA’ is and realised that this is definitely something that I need to start work on. Behind the scenes of pretty posts and lots of planning, I’m working away at to learn and configure SEO and want to carry this on to see the kind of numbers that I can achieve! I’d ideally like to have a DA of at least 10 by the end of the year.

Instagram/Twitter Followers

This one is very self-explanatory! I’d love to gain more followers on all social media, but especially Twitter and Instagram, as these are the two that I really use the most. I’d like to hit 500 Twitter followers, and 1000 Instagram followers before the year is up – big aims? Well, I’ve got big dreams!

Post twice a week

For the past few months I’ve stuck to once a week and although at times even sticking to that has been tough, more often than not I’ve found myself itching to post more but not as I wanted to keep consistency. This year, I’m aiming to post twice a week on Tuesday and Friday at 6pm GMT – and I’m determined to stick to it.

Become an organisation queen

The only way that I’ll be able to stay consistent and meet the goal above this one is by staying organised. Before Christmas, I spent a few hours writing down as many blog ideas as I could and ended up with a rough draft of an entire year’s worth of content. My lovely wife has bought me several planners and notebooks and I’ve started to use google drive and apps to religiously keep on top of everything, and I’m already starting to see it pay off.

I may add more as time goes by and I do plan on doing an update in a few months, but these are my main ones for now. I really have high hopes for myself and I’m going to work my little socks off to make sure I stick to them!

What are your goals or resolutions for 2017?
