My first favourites post of 2017 – how exciting! It’s a packed edition this month, so grab a brew and get comfy for my January Favourites.
First up is a product that’s not technically mine – it belongs to my lovely wife and I just cannot resist it. The Sleepy Body Lotion from LUSH contains almond oil, relaxing lavender and tonka and it smells amazing. I find that is has such a calming effect and massaging this into my skin before going to bed has become part of my nightly ritual.
We were lucky enough to get this half price in the LUSH sale, but after trying it I’d happily pay out double to get my hands on some more now!
Spectrum Brushes & Bag (£39.99/brushes, £16.99/bag)
One of my many Christmas presents from Lex this year was a set of Spectrum brushes and a gorgeous marble bag – how lucky am I?! They are so pretty that it took me a good two weeks to properly use them.
Although the set included 10, I’ve been sticking to A01 (domed powder), A05 (small angled), B01 (flat top buffer) and B03 (buffing concealer). They are soft and fantastically easy to use – I actually look forward to putting my makeup on with these! They’re also vegan and cruelty free which just adds to the allure of them.
The marble bag is also to die for – lined with pale grey silk, it’s taken up residence on my bedside table packed with my evening skincare products and it looks fab.
Spectrum Brush Cleaner (£9.99/each)
How adorable is this brush cleaner?
This quirky little shell is what I use along with the Real Techniques brush gel to clean all of my brushes, and it works so well. It’s hard to describe how it works, so straight from the lovely Spectrum website:
Lather and foam using the smaller bumps, and for a deeper clean work the bristles into the grooves, then simply rinse and lay brushes flat to dry.
Zoella Hungry Hands (£3.65/90ml)
I’ll be honest – this is the first and only product from the Zoella range that I have tried, and I have to say that I really love it! In winter my hands and nails are often dry and brittle, so I picked this up on a whim to try.
It smells absolutely amazing – not overpoweringly sweet or strong and it actually smells like fresh gingerbread. I pop this on every night before bed and as soon as I wake up in the morning, and my hands are velvety soft. To be honest I wasn’t really expecting much from this but I’m pleasantly surprised and it’s made me want to try more products from the range.
Ouai Wave Spray (£22/150ml)
My beautiful mum recommended the Ouai Wave spray to me a few months ago, but it’s only over Christmas and New Year that I properly started to use it and I totally regret not trying it sooner.
Made with rice proteins instead of salt for beachy waves without any stiffness, this doesn’t weigh the hair down in the slightest. When left to dry my natural hair is unruly and frizzy, but this spray helps to reduce flyaways and tame my curls whilst adding volume and shine.
It is quite expensive if you’re on a budget but if you do feel like splashing out I promise you that this is worth it!
Candy Mountain (£2.95/each)
As much as I love trying LUSH products, I generally stick to old favourites when it comes to bubble bars such as The Comforter and Creamy Candy.
This year however I decided to pick up a few Candy Mountain’s and I have truly enjoyed a change.
When held under running water it gently bubbles and produces a very sweet scent that reminds me of Snow Fairy. It’s not overpowering in the slightest, leaves my skin feeling silky soft and I find that I can get two baths from one bar – whats not to love?!
Ritual of Sakura Body Cream (£6/70ml or £19.50/220ml)
My final and favourite beauty product this month is this organic rice milk & cherry blossom body cream by Rituals. This is a rich, nourishing cream with a unique scent – I’ve never smelt anything like it.
A little of this really goes a long way and leaves me with super soft, moistured skin. It’s comforting and calming and has made me want to explore the entire Ritual of Sakura body range.
Marshmallow fireside candle (£2.99/each)
The very last favourite of this month is a candle from none other than B&M! I’d read a few reviews of these before I’d even seen them and after hearing that they’re a good Bath and Bodyworks dupe I immediately made a beeline for them when I saw my local B&M had stock.
I can’t think of any other way to describe this one – it simply smells like fire! It’s very woody and smoky, and as I’ve never tried a candle like this before it took me a while to figure out how I felt about it. I’m glad I gave it a chance though, as I’ve gone through two in the month of January alone.
It has a dual wick and burns extremely well without tunnelling. If you want a winter candle that is a little unusual and you don’t want to spend a lot then I would definitely recommend this one.
And that, my loves, is it! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post and as always, let me know what you think and what your favourites are.
